I think you got the …
I think you got the concept right. I consult to small and medium size OFFLINE business owners (they have websites, but sell products and services offline). The idea that signing up for “new media” channels and spending their time or hiring someone to play in this arena will substantially increase sales is a joke. Their customers don’t look for them this way. IT IS A WAY to generate more backlinks and increase their page rank, but there are other efficient ways to do so.
