    You’re right about …
You’re right about wrist flexion adding pressure to the lock but not everyone can apply it and for those who can it becomes natural as you practice. Trust me, these guys didn’t miss anything. They just had a limited amount of time to give EVERYONE the best lesson possible. It’s the old addage, the best way to teach someone nothing … is to show them everything.

    There isnt anything …
There isnt anything gay about learning the art of war.

    i don’t mean any …
i don’t mean any disrespect! Its just a detail my instructor showed me and it works great! I know that the Gracies are masters and i have a ton of respect for them, but they are human! its possible they forgot to mention a detail.

    ha ha ha. You’re …
ha ha ha. You’re telling the Gracies how to grapple. That’s like telling Chef Boyardee how to cook or The Rolling Stones how to rock. You’re fighting a loosing battle my friend…and riding a thin line toward disrespect. Nice try though.

  6. Menof09 says:

    you guys forgot one …
you guys forgot one detail. Once you have it locked in, if you arch both of your wrists upwards the pressure comes on much much faster. Lifting up almost isn’t necessary anymore. Just flex the wrists and pull it down and they will usually tap. If they don’t then start lifting

    You gotta remember …
You gotta remember though, it’s not like you need to break someone shoulder completely off to win. Sometimes just spraining it would prove your point already and nullify their strength advantage.

Like when a person gets a sprained ankle, that kind of damage isn’t permanent but it’s still serious enough to win a real fight, run away, whatever to make sure you’re safe in the end.

    you also have to …
you also have to use your imagination in that the person who’s doing the americana has the elbow planted next to the dude’s ear. He can make the person eat elbows

  14. Vash1202 says:

    Royce said it best …
Royce said it best in that BJJ is the art and GJJ is the teaching style.

Any jiu-jitsu competitor can show a few moves and then have students spar each other and it’ll still be teaching BJJ but Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has a specific curriculum to allow imilation of technique best and simulate street fight confrontation so as to prepare student for self-defense

Hey! just a question..Whats the difference between BJJ and GJJ? pleaseholla back

    Great video. I …
Great video. I learned this today and it was very helpful to come on here after my class and watch it over and over until I’m confident I can apply it correctly. Thanks.

  17. cmart02 says:

    Sweet!! Just a side …
Sweet!! Just a side comment to those interested. Notice that hand that swims under the opponent’s arm must rest on your wrist. If it does not, the opponent can scoop your left arm (the one holding him/her down) and lock it into a “cow’s hoof” position, which will be impossible to get out from.

You would start great and end in disgrace. :-)

    Thanks for the …
Thanks for the reply, I really thought the other way was more natural. The uppercut example made it crystal clear!!! forever indebted. do you train with them? I wish they were closer to my location.

  22. Vash1202 says:

    Yeah the techniques …
Yeah the techniques have officially evolved. Rener and Ryron teach stuff that’s a little bit different from what was originally taught by Helio/Rorion and they have their blessings because Helio said that even he’s still evolving too. Anyways, palm up is just a more natural motion which you would need if someone plants their elbow to the ground preventing you from wedging it through. Just try doing an uppercut with palm facing toward you instead of away and you’ll see what I mean.

Gracie Sucks …I like bjj but the gracies are weak cant strike

  24. LordBwithU says:

    technical question. …
technical question. I see that and you even mentioned it that you put the hand under PALM UP, i’m curious why, I’ve seen an old training series from Rorion and Royce and he did it PALM DOWN, which would seem more natural to me. But you specifically mentioned it and you guys are far and away the most articulate and technical instructors I’ve ever seen, has the technique evolved? Please explain. I love your series by the way, your videos have improved my game 100%.
