Why does the media portray social groups negatively?

I've noticed that in most areas of communication the famous, the powerful, and the media tend to give people of various social groups a negative image. Why is that?

well they make money that way they also have to explore the negetive and postive things

    What social groups do you mean? NAACP? Greek life? Thats a very general question.
