We understand how technology has affected the business landscape. How about education? Are whiteboards, PowerPoint slides and projectors the best that we can do? I doubt so.
So, how have educational thought leaders and organizations embraced technology? And what are the implications towards the future of learning? In this article we’ll explore three different ways how different [...]

Survey: The Future of Video Game Controls…Are You Up For It?
Hello. I’m conducting a survey for my postgraduate research working on Vision Based Gaming. It’s a research of learning and improving the existing technology of video games using gestures, movement and voice commands such as the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3′s EyeToy and the upcoming Project Natal for the XBOX360. I appreciate any feedbacks from you so please take the time to answer all my questions. There will be no right or wrong answer. Just answer them truthfully and you’re good to go. Answer them in numerical order:
1) Do you like the idea of interacting video games without using any traditional controllers but only yourself- using gestures, movements and voice commands? State reason.
2) Do you foresee video games to fully utilize this technology in the future- where players interact with the games without any traditional controllers? State reason.
3) What do you think of Sony’s EyePet? Have you tried it before and will you buy it if you haven’t?
4) There was an article in Yahoo! suggesting to gamers not to get the EyePet for Christmas? Do you agree or disagree? Why?
5) Are you looking forward to XBOX360′s Project Natal? State reason.

6) Do you think future games will follow the same path as Project Natal? State reason.
7) Heard of PSP’s Invizimals? Have you tried it/ bought it? Do you like it? (http://www.invizimals.com/)
8) Do you own a Nintendo Wii? What improvements do you think it needs in terms of controls?
9) There exists a helmet called Emotiv (http://www.emotiv.com/) where users can interact games using their thoughts and facial expression. Do you think it’ll be a great idea to use this helmet in exisiting gaming consoles? State reason.
10) Do you fancy the idea of playing portable games using vision based technology on the go? State reason.
Once again, your time and answers are greatly appreciated.

Sorry, forgot to add it.
1. I love the idea using non traditional controlling methods of video games, its time we have REAL next gen games and consoles. Wii is a start, however nothing more then utilising basic scensory technology. PS3 is just using blu-ray i.e cd technology but with higher capacity to hold data, xbox360 is old fashion using dvd techology but able to play in HD quality. This is not next gen to me.
Wii: people can PRETEND they are hitting something hard in a game they are playing eg. tennis in wii sports or rowing a boat in wii watersports, but essentially you can just make basic movements such as ‘up down, up down’ and you’ve basically controlling the game…it doesn’t capture the real emotion and concepts of what you are REALLY doing. You can get bored easily with no imagination.
2. i DO forsee it but it could take forever, i mean nintendo released a dodgy "VR goggles" i.e virtual boy which sucked according to reviews on tv, where you must HOLD the goggles to the face, and the games were all in red and it looked like a dodgey "black and white gameboy". Now because the entire game was all red, people could easily go insane using the device, little was sold before it got pulled from the market. The idea was there but the creator was a cheap moron who only cared about money, not enough proper research (same with segas ‘dreamcast’, memory cards that took batteries that connected with d-pads…very expensive, but created to be on par with the playstations popularity…yet they focused on how much money they could suck out of gamers not enjoyability)
I would love some VR goggles and jack into a virtual world and play games like GTA or at least chat with people and even play games similar to sims, and actually tasting the virtual foods (which is possible as i’ve seen a science show called "beyond tomorrow" in australia where you can bite into a device and it squirts flavouring that mimics stuff like "apples, biscuits/cookies" etc
The concept could be like the virtual game ‘second-life’ without it being a CON like ‘second-life’ i.e it costs money to buy virtual stuff and essentially was created for lonely morons besides its a dodgey version of "The sims" which lags alot, however using that concept with VR googles then that would be nice. (like the matrix in away, where the game is first person)
3. NO i have not tried "sonys eyepet" however I HAVE tested the ‘eyetoy’ games before, and no i wouldn’t buy it, its a load of crap. You a) look stupid playing it b)its not a next gen concept but merely substituting your flapping arms with controllers. Controllers would offer more accuracy and thats stupid as next gen should offer more accuracy and unique but more enjoyable gameplay. Plus you must face the tv forward so you can see the screen, you feel weird seeing your shadow facing foward whilst trying to hit enemies that come from the SIDE of the screen
4. if its THIS article (you should’ve supplied link dude) i googled for the link
http://uk.videogames.games.yahoo.com/blog/article/7088/
then yes, i agree it should be avoided, even tamagochi sux let alot this tamagochi clone. Kids would get bored easily, adults would punch the TV if THEY played it…kids would have more fun playing in the box itself. (seriously though a real pet would give more interactivity and more warmth, pressing a few buttons or waving your arms ain’t gonna keep kids happy, especially adult gamers)
5. no i’m not looking forward to project natal, i’m a playstation fan, but mainly i think its a stupid idea, wow some dodgey moving avatar, and a eyetoy clone that looks also like a wii game (i.e natal soccer ball demonstration) is suppose to make me care about the xbox, wow I can go download movies and go to facebook…yay..NOT. If i wanted to go to facebook or download a movie i’d do it on my freakin computer. This is another novelty and gimmicky nonsense, no real next gen concept.
6.yes it will have the same path as project natal, as people are morons, they are like movie directors who dont’ think like viewers and TELL us what THEY think we want. eg. PSP GO is not any better then previous PSP’s, the cpu and specs are same from what ive heard, yet ANOTHER PSP got released (including PSP3000) excuse to get people to get into their PSP version of itunes
they all have a the same path of natal as its easy to mimic concept that is NOT next gen gaming but offers another way into the market to gain more profit (samething using the psp example above)
natal is a stupid gimmick piece of sh*t, oooo moving avatars, seriously THATS the best you can come up with in terms of next gen, i’ve even seen a game where you have to block soccer balls *cough….wii sports…cough.. cough*
7. no i have not heard of ‘invizimals, i have not tried it and will not buy it. I have seen enough (which wasn’t much) to make a judgement let me say it looks stupid, didn’t a few years ago they invent a cheap little gaming toy that you used to scan barcod
