The HTML5 version of the mobile Gmail app hasn’t exactly been friendly towards non-American users to date; English (and indeed what Google calls "U.S. English") was the only language in which it was available. Now, however, Google’s addressed the problem in a big way.
Today, there are 44 new languages on the figurative table, and that should account for the vast majority of people who are likely to own a smartphone. An Android device or anything running a recent version of iOS, in fact.
So here’s the full list: Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (UK and American), Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian (Bokmal), Polish, Portuguese (for both Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish (for both Spain and South America), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukranian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
A post on the Official Google Blog also explained, "If your phone’s default language is one of those listed, go to gmail.com in your phone’s browser and the new interface will appear in your language automatically. . . . You’ll get a bunch of new goodies including offline support, smart links (titles will appear in links for Google Maps, YouTube and Google Docs), the ability to add and remove labels, layout improvements and more – in addition to the existing features like starring, better threaded conversations and search."
This development should help Google win quite a few more fans in the international community.

The Visual Studio development system will be around for a while. If serves Java, ASP.Net, Visual Basic.Net, and many other inter-related languages.
Look in the job sites and help wanted classified ads for what employers are hiring currently. Think how long it will take you to learn the language and how you are going to get the 2 years experience required before they will talk to you, because things change very fast in this field.

I have been in the industry since 1999 working as a consultant.
I think C is a good one to learn it is a general language and has all the constructs one needs to become a programmer. Compilers can be had for the downloading (search for "gcc") and while you do not need to get real deep into it, C has some challenging concepts that will give you a good idea on how computers work on a low level.
However, I have not done a lot of work in C or in C++. Lately I have been writing a fair amount of PERL and PHP.
One language I see left off of everyone’s list is one I will probably get dinged for, but there are way more lines of code in it than in C++ or in C# or in Java. It is an old language and many of the people who wrote and maintained those programs are retiring. That language is COBOL. My manager at my client could really use some COBOL people but everyone coming out of college or the tech schools knows C# or Java or some other faddish language.
However, the most important language is that of business. Learn how to talk with those who don’t know computers and want to get things done. That is my biggest problem going to a new client, figuring out the business so I can talk with my business clients so they can understand rather than in code from my spec docs.

from 1996 , i learn Quick Basic, Pascal, DBase, Clipper, Visual Basic, Delphi and HTML.
My first ‘professional’ software was build from clipper (Dos), and the rest of it are build with Delphi until now.
Most of my software involved database (sql).
if you ask about ‘what are the best computer languages’ , i will say ‘Visual C++’ . cause it’s easier to use Windows SDK (software development kit) from Visual C++ than from Delphi.
(I still learn Visual c++ now)
To learn programming languages like PHP, Java, etc, are not a big problem if you have enough basic in programming language like C++ or Pascal, it just about programming language syntax, structure and built-in function name.
But It doesn’t mean you must know C++ to learn PHP or Java. You can mastered in PHP or Java without knowing anything about C++.
To make gMail or Yahoo Answers, maybe they mix between php, html and sql for their database??? Hope someday ‘Yahoo-guy’ will reveal their secret ingredient to public.
