Just weeks after launching an official BlackBerry app and acquiring Tweetie (which will become Twitter for iPhone), Twitter is out with another mobile application built in-house, this time for Google Android.

The app is available immediately in the Android Market. Twitter’s Leland Rechis describes it on the company’s official blog, writing, “Reading tweets is easy in a bunch of places on your phone. Quickly access your timeline with the home screen widget, view a tweet location on a map, and see your friend’s latest tweet in your phonebook, GoogleTalk list or any application that uses Android’s QuickContact bar.”

Twitter’s move to Android was expected, but marks the latest twist in the ongoing rift between Twitter and its third-party developers. In an interview with Mashable earlier this month, Seesmic CEO Loic Le Meur, whose company makes one of Twitter’s more popular Android apps, dismissed the competitive threat levied by Twitter. Now, we’ll see how his company and others fare as they go head-to-head with the microblogging giant on yet another platform.

A new website called Likebutton.me uses Facebook’s just-launched Social Plugins features to show you a list of all the items your Facebook friends “Liked” across several websites like YouTube, Pandora, Hulu, Flickr, The Wall Street Journal, IMDB and numerous others.

It basically just splashes the Activity Feed Social Plugins for each website all up onto one page. You can view several pre-defined sets like Games, Video or Tech, and you can add sites of your choosing to each of the categories on the fly.

Another site called itstrending shows the most-liked items in categories. For example, it’ll tell you that the new The Twilight Saga: Eclipse trailer is one of the most liked YouTube videos with more than 97,000 shares.

Expect these to be just two of many new sites using Facebook’s Social Plugins to serve up social data that wasn’t available before the big changes that Facebook unveiled at the F8 conference last week.

You don’t need to use Likebutton.me to do what Likebutton.me does, though. You do it yourself by creating embeddable code for a Activity Feed plugin for any website you want, including Mashable, as shown below. Just go to Facebook’s Activity Feed plugin website and fill out a very short form (website domain, preferred size, and a few simple styling options) and you’ll be given the code that you can drop into your blog.

We posted news yesterday that Blippy, the site for sharing your credit card transactions with friends, had inadvertently made full credit card numbers of some users visible in Google searches.

Blippy responded that the situation was “a lot less bad than it looks”, since only 127 transactions and 4 credit cards were affected. (We’d argue that’s still a major issue for a site that relies on user trust to post your transactions in the first place.)

Today a tipster tells us that the problem is not resolved — as of this morning, you could still find at least one full credit card number from a Blippy user on Google (shown below with the number obscured). Other searches reveal less sensitive data, like the last four digits of credit card numbers, the user’s bank name and dates and times of purchases.

The question is whether Blippy’s users, already quite comfortable with sharing their credit card transactions with the world, will be at all unnerved by these recent data leaks.

Update: Arvin on the Blippy blog writes: “To date, we’ve discovered one additional credit card number and have reached out to the owner. And while we don’t anticipate anyone else to be affected, we’re continuing our investigation with urgency.” Blippy also says it’s working with Google to “have them remove all sensitive information from their cache.”

Remember that little payment widget on Tumblr we talked about a couple of weeks ago? One of the things it’s used for are premium themes, which are (besides the fee for getting your blog featured in Tumblr’s blog directory) Tumblr’s first revenue generator.

Although monetization on blogging and microblogging networks is often mystified to the point that everyone expects something out of the ordinary, Tumblr took a very simple and basic route. Users have already had a big choice of “regular”, free themes. Now, those that want something more, or something specific (like the Photofolio theme, for example), now have a choice of 13 premium themes which cost from 9 to 49 dollars.

This addition comes hot on the heels of several other important updates, such as static pages, direct video uploads, and a BlackBerry app. Besides that, Tumblr posted some impressive numbers and milestones two weeks ago, showing that it’s still growing and carving an increasingly important niche with its “dead simple blogging” approach.

Twitter users are reporting a new attempt to extract their usernames and passwords — a Direct Message attack that asks “You’re on here?” with a link. Others report DMs linking to a site called “mhansenhome” with the message “’someone posted on their blog about you”.

The advice is straightforward: if you get such a message on Twitter, DO NOT click the link or enter your login details on the landing page. If you find you’re sending out these DMs to friends, change your Twitter password.

Twitter recently took steps to combat phishing by introducing its Twt.tl URL shortener — links sent via DM now appear as “‘twt.tl” links in your email notifications, allowing Twitter to re-route malicious links to a warning page in some cases.

Until recently, blogging clients for the BlackBerry have been pretty limited. But WordPress for BlackBerry was released last month, and today Tumblr released its official BlackBerry app, which lets you post photos, videos, audio, links and text directly from the BlackBerry to your microblog.

Mobelux, the guys behind the stellar Tumblr iPhone app are also the masterminds behind Tumblr BlackBerry. That means that the same attractive interface and robust feature support from the iPhone app is now available to CrackBerry addicts alike.

Tumblr is hosting the app so that you can download it directly to your device. BlackBerry Storm 2 owners might have some issues, but Mobelux developer Jason Emerick has the solution posted on his blog.

The app supports different post types, saving drafts, and publishing options including whether or not you want to also send out the post to Twitter. You can send images from your library directly to Tumblr (just like the Flickr for BlackBerry app) and select pre-existing videos or record new video directly from the app itself.

Kudos to Tumblr — who also tells us the app got 25,000 downloads in the first hour — for putting together a BlackBerry client that doesn’t make any compromises. What apps do you use for blogging from your Blackberry? Let us know!
